Quotes Display

Following your assets & accessing asset-specific information

The Quotes Display in your personal workspace where you set up the assets you want to follow - stocks, futures, indexes – and is saved every time you log on and off. To add and group assets in the manner you want, follow the instructions below.

The Quotes Display functions much like any other quotes display you may have seen before. Symbols are entered on the left under the “Symbol” heading. It is important to use proper symbols in the Quotes Display, and the program uses identical symbology to that of IDC’s eSignal®. This means all indexes must be entered with a leading ‘$’ character, and all futures contracts must be entered with the base symbol, followed by a space, then the month code and the year code. (You can follow the examples already entered into the Quotes Display.)

You will see a few stocks, indexes, and futures already filled in when you first bring up the program. You can easily change these into items you’re more interested in. Just click on one, delete the existing symbol, and type in your new symbol. Click on Refresh to update current quotes

“Add Symbols” Button
A list of all assets in the Background Data Base and their symbols is available by clicking on the Add Symbols button. Through here you can add symbols, or look them up if you are not sure of the symbol for an asset. Begin by typing the asset’s name in the name field until the asset you want appears in the list below.

You can also use the alphabetical listing. Search for specific assets by clicking on the letter corresponding to the first letter in the company’s name. Then scroll the company list to find the company you wish to add.

Once you have found your asset, highlight the company name in Company Name list. Then click Add. This will transfer the name to the field on the right.

Once you have chosen all of the assets you wish to add, click Accept. This will close the Add Symbol window, and return you to the Quotes Display which now includes your newly picked assets. Click on Refresh to update all prices.

To Cancel the action without adding any assets, close the Add Symbols window by clicking on the red X in the upper right hand corner of window.

“Add a New Symbol” Field
If you know the symbol of the asset you wish to add to the Quotes Display, enter the symbol in the Add a Symbol field located on the top line of the Quotes Display. Simply type in the symbol and click Refresh. The Quotes Display will automatically assign it to the Industry Group you currently have highlighted.

Refresh Quotes
To update quotes and asset listings, click on the Refresh button.

Asset News
Next to each symbol is a News hyperlink. By clicking on the blue News text, your browser will open a new window to the research page on MSN Money Central. From here, you can view the latest news, financials and fundamentals related to that asset.

Deleting an Asset
To delete an asset from the Quotes Display, click on the symbol field for the asset you wish to delete. Highlight the symbol and delete the symbol name from the symbol field. Click the Refresh button. The symbol will now be removed.

Creating Groups in the Quotes Display
You probably noticed when you first opened Quotes Display that the indices, stocks, and futures were separated by shaded group heading bars labeled with those names that extended across the entire Quotes Display.

You can easily create your own customized groups on the Quotes Display. To create a new group header, in the Add a New Symbol field on top of the Quotes Display, type the ‘#’ character, followed by the name you want for that group. You will see the ‘#’ character while typing, but once you hit [Refresh] the ‘#’ sign disappears. The Quotes Display will center the header name in a divider bar that extends across the entire grid.

Grouping items in the Quotes Display plays a useful role for performing industry analysis or research on your favorite assets.

Accessing the Asset-Specific Functions
In addition to serving as a Quotes Display, this window is central to accessing other tools. Asset-specific functions offer a wealth of information about each individual asset and its options. Before accessing any asset-specific functions for an asset (Matrix, Price Chart, and Volatility Chart), the asset’s symbol must be selected (highlighted) on the Quotes Display first. To select an asset, simply click once on the symbol. A red diamond appears next to the symbol indicating the asset has been selected.

Once selected, you can click one of asset-specific buttons to open that asset’s Matrix, Price Chart, or Volatility Chart.
